History of our Company
Yellow and Checker Cab Co. began in Smithfield in 1942 when
the late Mitchell G. Rabil and his father, the late Edward Rabil Sr.
purchased two surplus North Carolina Highway Patrol cruisers to
transport World War II soldiers to nearby military bases. We are
located at 504 East Market Street in Smithfield and have been at
that location since the 1960's. The President is Carter Rabil and
the Vice-President is Steve Rabil. Carter handles legal,
advertising,
and public relations while Steve handles the day to day operations.
Our current rates are $2.50 per mile, $1.00 per stop en route, .50
per minute waiting time, $1.00 for trunk, and $30.00 per hour
roundabout in the city limits. All of our taxicabs are computer

capacity of 4 adults. We have safely transported passengers as far
north as Canada and as far south as Florida. We are a member of
the Greater Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce and the Taxicab,
Limousine and Paratransit Association. We sponsor various
fundraising events such as Rotary Radio Days, Relay for Life,
